Undergraduate modules

Department of Anthropology

This course is part of the compulsory field courses taken by third-year undergraduates as part of their formal training. It is synchronous or live, and taught over five full days. It covers the history and current issues related to the colonisation of the East Coast of present day North America, or Turtle Island as it is called by Indigenous groups on the Continent. In covering topics such as indigeneity, self-representation, migration, health and museum repatriation, we discuss with and interview people working in museums, representatives from Indigenous groups such as the Wampanoag and Pequot from Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as academics with an Indigenous background. Students train in digital ethnography while also learning about many salient concerns of North American Indigenous groups. This programme is only available to students enrolled on our Anthropology programmes.
