Danielle Johnson

Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Anthropology

Danielle is a social scientist and postdoctoral researcher in the Anthropology department and Institute for Hazard, Risk and Resilience. Prior to Durham, Danielle lived and worked in Aotearoa New Zealand, where she was involved in a range of Indigenous-focussed research. These included a long-term collaboration with tribes in northern Aotearoa spanning ethnographic Masters, Doctoral and applied work on climate change adaptation and Indigenous wellbeing, plus contribution to shorter interdisciplinary projects, for example assessments of coastal adaptation options and hazard impacts for tribes in the North and South islands. As a non-Indigenous researcher, Danielle is an advocate for slow, meaningful engagement with Indigenous peoples, to craft research of value on the ground, in communities. Danielle maintains connections with iwi (tribes) in Aotearoa, supporting development of locally-led climate adaptation.
