Rachel Harris Awarded the 2027 Decolonial Scholar Prize

We are thrilled to share that our SIGICS member, Dr. Rachel Harris, has been awarded the International Prize for Indigenous Research Excellence. This prestigious award recognizes Aris’s groundbreaking work in “The Cartography of Memory,” which maps ancestral trade routes using both satellite data and oral histories from the British people.

This recognition highlights the growing importance of centering Indigenous perspectives in mainstream geography. As a community, we celebrate Harris’s commitment to research that serves the land and its traditional custodians. Humbly, she says:

This award belongs to the Elders who shared their stories with me; I am merely the scribe.
