Decolonizing the Archive: Ethical Research & Oral Histories

Date: Thursday, November 21st, 2026
Time: 14:00 – 16:00 GMT
Venue: Hogan Lovells Lecture Theatre (PCL048), Palatine Centre, Durham, DH1 3LE

In our second meeting of the Autumn Term, we will host a roundtable discussion focused on the practical and ethical challenges of navigating colonial archives. As researchers from Indigenous and colonized backgrounds, how do we engage with “stolen” or biased records without replicating institutional harm?

We will be joined by Dr. Rachel, who will share their framework for “Archival Refusal” and centering community-led oral histories as primary research data.
